After earning a double degree in Mathematics and Business Administration from the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University, I started my career as an Actuarial Analyst at Mercer. A few exams and a few years later, I was ready to transition careers, taking with me the technical aptitude gained, the work discipline achieved, the memories made, and the mentor relationships formed. Several months and several countries later (see photo gallery!), after amalgamating my experiences, both professional and personal, I daringly entered the analytics world with a confident heart and open mind (see “Tales of a 20-Something Career Changer” post). Recently, I’ve been working towards the Data Science Fundamentals Certification offered by the University of Toronto. After completing three quarters of the journey and applying my learnings into my current role, I can unequivocally say I live, breathe, eat and dream about data! Through this experience, I learned that data is one of the most powerful under utilized tools at a company’s disposal.
